Narodowe Centrum Sportu hereby reports that the completion of the main steel structure at the National Stadium has been postponed from June to July 2010. Additionally, the construction completion date as declared to UEFA, June 2011, has not been changed.
In April 2010 NCS was sent an application from the General Contractor, the consortium consisting of ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, ALPINE Construction Polska Sp. z o.o., PBG S.A and HYDROBUDOWA POLSKA S.A., for the postponing of the steel structure construction completion. The application was supported by an independent decision of the Polish Association of Engineers and Construction Technologists stating that the influence of exceptionally unfavourable weather conditions in winter 2009/2010 could result in the postponing of construction completion dates by 97 days in total.
The National Stadium construction schedule stipulates a few key dates that facilitate the monitoring of the construction works progress. Narodowe Centrum Sportu, taking into consideration the said expert opinion of the PAECT and an additional legal opinion, and as a result of consultations with the General Contractor, decided to sign an annex to the agreement and to postpone the date of achieving the first key target by 57 days (from June to July 2010).
The other two key targets remained unchanged, namely: November 2011 – start of the heating installation and January 2011 – the end of roof cable structure work. In addition, design cooperation procedures between the designer, contractor and investor have been facilitated and the previous applications concerning, e.g. inconsistencies between the actual state and specification sheet of the 10-th Anniversary Stadium have been considered in favour of the investor.“Taking into consideration the expert opinion of the PAECT, we have accepted the postponing of the steel structure completion date. At the same time we expect full involvement of the contractor and designers as well as intensification of work” - says Rafał Kapler, Chairman of the NCS Management Board – “We maintain the dates agreed with UEFA and, additionally, we determined the summer holidays of 2011 as the date of the first events to take place at the National Stadium in Warsaw in the annex to the agreement with the General Contractor.”
