The reconstruction of Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street will improve communication around the National Stadium in Warsaw

On 20th May 2010, an agreement between the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the Warsaw Town Hall, concerning the reconstruction of Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street, was signed. The planned comprehensive reconstruction of Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street have been made in the plans for the revitalisation of the Praga bank of the Vistula, and will contribute to the increased attractiveness of the areas near the National Stadium in Warsaw.

The section of Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street running along the National Stadium in Warsaw – from the Poniatowski Bridge to the intersection with Sokola Street behind the railway viaduct – joins the road around the Stadium surroundings. According to the design, all gates to the National Stadium in Warsaw will be located on Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street, which is why the investment must be closely coordinated with the construction of the roads surrounding the Stadium. Zarząd Miejskich Inwestycji Drogowych will be the investor for this task. The contractor of work, which must be completed before the acceptance of the National Stadium in Warsaw in 2011, will be selected by public tender organized by ZMID.

As a result of this investment, the existing road will be widened with an additional lane, with traffic from two gates leading to the National Stadium in Warsaw. Furthermore, a bicycle path, running along the western side of Wybrzeże Szczecińskie Street, will be built, and traffic lights, taking the newly designed pedestrian crossing and a bicycle crossing into account, will be modernised.

Prefabricated cascade stairs are currently being assembled in the reinforced-concrete concave in which the Stadium is built. With these stairs, the spectators will access the upper promenade then further to their places in the upper ring of stands. 18 flights of cascade stairs, 14 meter high, are situated at equal distances around the concave. Eight load-bearing structures have been installed so far.

The main steel structure is also being assembled. 10 posts and 7 elements of the inner ring truss have been installed.

On the lowest storeys of the Stadium, intensive installation and finishing work is in progress.
