The assembly of the column steel construction supporting the cable roof of the National Stadium in Warsaw began today. This is a totally new stage in the construction work! The steel and cable roof of the Stadium consists of 12 thousand tons of steel and over 2 thousand tons of steel cables.
The Italian Cimolai company has already delivered 6,400 tons of steel construction elements to the Stadium building site. Due to their size and weight, it was a very complicated logistic operation to deliver the elements by train from Italy to Warsaw Praga goods railway station and then with vehicles to the construction site. 72 columns, each 30 meters long and weighing approx. 40 tons, with 72 parts of the ring assembled between them, each weighing over 48 tons, had to be transported through Warsaw streets at night and with traffic regulated on the route.
